No Crystal Stair
Published in Paperback by Women's Press (July, 2003)
Author: Mairuth Sarsfield
Average review score:

Book rich with atmosphere and characters
This is a must read for anyone interested in the black human experience in Montreal Canada. The characters are rich and full of life. This is a book that could have become preachy, but it's not.

This is the story of one widowed woman's struggle to rear her girl children to be color blind, and to think that they can become whatever they want in an atmosphere where racism and sexism still exists.

The book could almost read like a screenplay there are many memorable characters who demand their place in the sun, whether the reverend trying to maintain peace among people of many cultures at a wedding, or the former missionary too naive to realize that black people can be born and raised in Canada.

This is book that runs the gambit of humor to sadness. I can't wait to read what might come next from this author.

Absolutely Phenomenal!
I read this book approximately 8-9 years ago and could not put it down. When I re-located I lost it and was devasted. I plan on purchasing 2 books so I can be sure to always have an extra copy.

Insightful, phenomenal, outstanding, exciting, and just down right real. It allowed me to experience and appreciate other authors and poets.

A MUST BUY!

Authors: Amnon Yariv and Pochi Yeh

The best there is!
As all books by Yariv exremely readable. Excellent overview and excellent explanations. The layout is not fancy but the text is gold. No "handwaving", the authors are really interested in teaching the subject.

Optics of Liquid Crystal Displays
Published in Hardcover by Wiley-Interscience (02 September, 1999)
Authors: Pochi Yeh and Claire Gu
Average review score:

A very helpfull and readable textbook
A few fundamental principles like Maxwell's equations are used in the book to develop successful theory. Thorough examples help to apply the theory to very broad range of actual technological problems of modern optical science. It makes the book of great use to graduate students and to anyone having good mathematical background.

Pendulum Magic for Beginners: Power to Achieve All Goals
Published in Paperback by Llewellyn Publications (February, 2002)
Author: Richard Webster
Average review score:

EXCELLENT starter book ! ! !
I have, so far in my lifetime, only read 3 books all the way through more than once. One was the Bible, one was 'Men are from Mars; Women are from Venus' by DR. John Grey. And the other was this book. At the time of my first reading, I had an eye infection and was advised by several people not read... but I just could not put this book down. It has 'infected' me with a great urge to learn more about pendulums, which I am in the process of. I was lucky enough to be able to get the pendulum to work the first time I tried, but others may not be as blessed. The book describes many uses for a pendulum, as well as several examples to practice your pendulum skills with. There is not a lot of glitz in this book, which may turn some off, but I found it a very informative and interesting read.

Physical Properties of Crystals
Published in Hardcover by (April, 1985)
Author: Nye
Average review score:

eka@rci.rutgers.edu
The book by Nye is considered by many people in the relevant scientific societies as the "bible" of crystal physics. In scientific terms, it is a rigorously written book on tensor algedra which which is the mathematical formalism essential to describe the physical properties of crystals. The mathematical complexity of the book is rather elementary and hence could be used for a senior level advanced undergraduate course as well (typically it is used as a first your graduate course text). The first half of the book discusses equilibrium properties of crystals (permittivity, piezoelectricity, elasticity etc.), therefore a rather modest background in physics is needed. The second half of the book that is devoted to transport properties may require some "general" background on the basic principles of transport phenomena and irreversible thermodynamics. This book, in my opinion, is a very well written book that places the physical properties of crystals in an "easy to comprehend" mathematical framework eloquently. It is an excellent text book. I highly recommend it.
